James Mazo

James Mazo, M.D., Occupational Health Physician

Dr. Mazo received his M.D. degree from Boston University 1993. He completed his residency in Surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center in 1988. Dr. Mazo completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Occupational Medicine and General Surgery. Dr. Mazo has been Medical Director for St. Francis Occupational Health for the past 8 years.

Adam Kovalski, Occupational Health Physician Assistant

Adam Kovalski, P.A-C. works as a Physician Assistant at JOMC.  Adam graduated from Yale University School of Medicine PA program.  He also has degrees from University of Florida, (MS) and the University of Connecticut, (BS).  Adam began his career in healthcare as a combat medic with US Army Reserves.  Since the Reserves he has spent his time in Orthopedic, Primary, and Urgent Care fields.


Kathleen Heim, RN, MSN Occupational Health Nurse

Kathleen Heim, RN, MSN is the Director of JOMC and has over 20 years experience in emergency and occupational nursing. A graduate of The University of Connecticut school of Nursing, she also has a graduate degree from The University of Phoenix.

Debra Ponkala – Occupational Medicine Specialist

Under the supervision of the Director, performs all occupational medicine deb-enfieldservices including billing, deposits, account follow-up and account research functions, collections, acts as the patient’s contact in regard to billing insurance carriers and employers, referrals, telephone inquiries and claims resolution.  Graduated in 1994 from New Hampshire College (nka Southern New Hampshire University) with a degree in Business Administration. She has been employed with JOMC for 12 years.

Hanna Bialkowski-Occupational Medicine Patient Care Technician

Under the nursing supervision of the Director, performs all occupational medicine services.   Graduated in 2006 from hannah-enfieldEducational Training Center of Wethersfield, with a certificate in the nurse aide program. She has been employed by Hartford Hospital medical surgical unit and Johnson Memorial Hospital.  She has been at  Johnson Occupational Medicine Center for over a year.
